There is canine research

A 2024 double-blind, controlled study followed 31 dogs with naturally occurring osteoarthritis for 12 weeks. It evaluated a specific bioactive collagen peptide preparation using gait measurements, owner questionnaires and activity monitors.

The researchers reported improvement in several gait measures and owner-assessed quality of life with the collagen preparation. Activity-monitor readings did not show an intervention effect.

Keep the limits beside the findings

This was a small, short study of a particular preparation. The paper disclosed industry funding, an author employed by the funder and patent-related interests. Those details do not automatically invalidate the findings, but they belong in a fair account of the evidence.

The study cannot establish that every collagen powder has the same effects. It does not test any Poochy product. Broader conclusions require attention to the whole body of evidence, including independent replication and longer follow-up.

A familiar ingredient is not a complete safety assessment

Ingredient source, formulation, quality and your dog's health history still matter. A veterinarian can help assess a specific product in the context of diet, allergies and current care.

In the US, the human dietary-supplement framework does not apply to animal products. FDA classifies animal products based on factors including ingredients and intended use. Calling something a supplement does not settle its regulatory status.

What we are exploring

Collagen peptides are one of the three ingredients in Poochy Peptide Powder. We cite this study because it is the clearest canine evidence for collagen, and we keep its limits in view while we build.
